FAQ
FAQ
How are the College and the Foundation related?
The MaKami College Education Foundation was created to strengthen the support MaKami College already provides. It covers both academic and non-academic costs, such as tuition, supplies, mental health, and living expenses, so students can overcome barriers and finish their programs. Together, the College and the Foundation will continue to expand essential support services to ensure students have the resources they need to succeed.
What are the donation opportunities?
There are several ways to give. Every donation makes a real difference in a student’s life. You can choose a one-time gift, set up monthly contributions for ongoing impact or make a high-impact donation to create transformational change.
Visit our Giving Opportunities site for more information.
Where is the foundation located?
The foundation is located in Edmonton and Calgary, close to our campuses and the students we serve.
What kind of support do you offer?
We provide wrap-around supports that remove barriers to education. This includes financial assistance for living expenses, ESL training, mental-health support, housing assistance, child care and scholarships for tuition, books and supplies, among other essential resources that help students stay in school and succeed.
Learn more about how your gift can support these initiatives on our Building Pathways to Possibility site.
When did the Foundation start?
The foundation was originally conceived as the Queen Esther Foundation in 2010. When MaKami College transitioned into the publicly funded sector in 2025, the foundation was restructured to directly serve the students at the college. From its beginnings, the foundation has remained committed to removing barriers and transforming lives through education.
I would like to make a high impact donation. What are the next steps?
High-impact donations are extraordinary gifts that allow donors to leave a permanent, transformative impact on MaKami College and the lives of those we serve.
We work closely with each donor to identify a project or program that reflects their vision and values, whether it’s scholarships, capital projects, or innovative student supports.

What kind of challenges are your students facing?
Our students face a wide range of challenges that can make completing their education difficult. The biggest barriers include financial assistance for living expenses, English as a Second Language (ESL) training, document translation, career counselling, mental health counselling and support, job-skills training, housing assistance, childcare support, and scholarships or bursaries for tuition, books, and supplies, among other essential needs.
